Principles and characteristics of electric vehicle connectors

The electric connector is installed on the roof at the rear of each locomotive, and its main function is to automatically connect the 25kV high-voltage circuit on the roof of two locomotives during coupling. Today, we will introduce the high-voltage connectors for electric vehicles.
Working principle
When two cars need to be coupled and operated as a double coupling, the traction force of the two car couplers is relied on to slowly approach the two connectors. Under the guidance of the sheep's horn, each conductive half circle ring (static contact) is accurately inserted into the other's fork shaped part (dynamic contact) to connect the high-voltage circuit on the primary side of the two cars. At the same time, the tension spring on the fork tightly clasps the half ring. As the relative displacement of the two connectors is absorbed and adjusted by the tension spring and return spring, it can maintain a constant contact pressure between the fork and the half ring, thus ensuring good electrical performance.
Characteristics
1. The high-voltage connector itself does not have an operating mechanism, and the operating force during connection and separation comes from the traction force during the coupling or separation of the locomotive coupler. The connection or separation of the random locomotive coupler is completed simultaneously, without the need for separate operation, which is very convenient.
2. In the connected state, the contact pressure of the contact is only related to the contact spring and is not affected by the locomotive operating state. Therefore, the contact pressure of the contact is basically constant, avoiding contact wear and electrical corrosion.
3. The conductive contact is a forked ring structure, which is a typical line contact method. Its working state is stable and reliable, with low contact resistance and good heat dissipation performance.
4. The connector does not come with an arc extinguishing device, so it must be connected or disconnected in a dead state.
5. High voltage connectors must be used in pairs. From the perspective of product universality and interchangeability, each high-voltage connector has the same structure and good interchangeability, without any distinction between front and rear. In order to meet different operational requirements, any combination can be made.
The high-voltage connector of electric vehicles relies on the power of the locomotive and trailer hook to connect with the coupler at the same time. When separated, it also automatically disengages with the vehicle's coupler.
